NEMO remains in TOP500 supercomputers of the world

The new TOP500 list for June 2017 has been published [1]. NEMO has been ranked 389 (down from 295 in November 2016) [2]. NEMO is currently the only bwForCluster on the list.

The bwForCluster JUSTUS in Ulm und MLS&WiSo in Mannheim/Heidelberg are older than NEMO and have been eliminated from the list by newer systems profiting from the advances in supercomputer technology. The bwForCluster BinAC in Tübingen has the same age as NEMO and is probably comparably powerful. However, at the time the HPL benchmark was last executed on that system ( (June 2016), the more complex mixed hardware (GPGPU and classic CPU) and time constraints made it difficult to exploit the full capacity of the system.

NEMO is therefore the only of the four bwForClusters left in the TOP500 list. The current agenda is to moderately extend NEMO in the second half of 2017 and update the HPL benchmark as well as run the alternative HPCG benchmark on the complete system.
